【 Seiozan-Myokenji Temple】Nichiren Buddhism

“Seiozan-Myokenji Temple” is established by Priest Kenshuin Nichimei of Mt. Yanagishima Myoken from Nichiren Buddhism, whom was worshiped as “Myoken of Yanagishima”. “Seio-Myoken Temple” is located in Yanagimachi. Yanagimachi is a town formed in the late Edo period. The formation of the town is credited to the famous household of Kaminishi Jinzo from Shiroishi. It is said that during Sankinkoutai of Sendai Domain Lord Date, he passed through Yanagimachi. He was delighted to see the development of the town. “ Seiozan-Myokenji Temple” became a part of Yanagimachi’s history and has supported the people of Yanagimachi. On the temple premise is “Myokendo” and “Kumaya Inari”. The deity “Myoken Sonten” that protects Yanagishima is enshrined here at “Myokendo”. Day and night people come to offer prayers to “Kumaya Inari”. Myokenji is also known as the “Oku-no-Hosomichi Sanjyusan Reiba Dai 25 Ban” or “Number 25 of the 33 Sacred Ground of The Narrow Road to the Deep North”.
