Fure-I Deck

The observation deck, “Fure-I Deck” is located in the vicinity of Iki-iki Plaza located near Sawabatagawa River that flows through the city center. At Fure-I Deck, you are able to observe Koi carp, Japanese ducks and etc. The view of the four seasons reflected on the surface of Sawabatagawa River is a sight to behold. The observation deck is known to be one of the few places surrounded by nature in the city.

“Sawabatagawa River” is a river that flows through the Shiroishi City. It used to be a river that acted as the Sannomaru outer moats that surrounds Shiroishi Castle. Along the river, you will find landscape scenery depicting the lives of the townspeople and their relationship with the river. At Ushirokoji, you get to see bukeyashiki or samurai residence such as “Former Koseki Clan Residence” (Miyagi Prefecture Designated Cultural Property) as well as Kura (Japanese warehouses) and the gates of some old traditional residences. Along this course you get to experience the 4 seasons of Shiroishi City. The rows of endless blooming Sakura trees in spring, the Hydrangea flowers and Baikamo flowers blooming in the summer, the reflection of Broad-leaves trees on the surface of the water in autumn and the blanket of white snow covering the branches of trees in the winter, all each have their own special magic that will keep you in awe. Every year during spring and autumn, litter cleanup activities are held by local activity organizations and volunteers to ensure the beauty of nature in Shiroishi City.
