Legend has it that in the late Heian era, Hitachibo Kaison (a retainer of Minamoto no Yoshitsune) discovered Obara Onsen. This hot spring is commonly known as [Me-ni-Obara].

Heading west on the scenic Route 113 from the metropolitan area, you will come across an onsen village commonly known as Obara in Shiroishi. The Obara Onsen that is nestle close to the upstream of the Shiroishi River and v-shaped valley is said to be discovered by Minamoto no Yoshitsune’s retainer • Hitachino Boukaison. In the 800 years since its discovering, the hot spring has since heal countless people.
The colourless and odourless spring water heals illness. The name of “Me-ni-Obara” is very famous and guests from all over Japan come here in seek of the ravine water.
Obara Onsen Village and its beautiful valley scenery will entertain you during your stay. The sprouting young shoot in spring and summer, the maple leaves in autumn and the blanket of white snow during winter has never fail entertain visitors. Every year manay people visit the quiet Obara Onsen.
Iwaburo Katsura Bath
If you walk along the riverbank, you will see [Iwaburo Katsura Bath] right beside a suspension bridge crossing the river. As the town runs the bath facility, the cost to enter the bath is reasonable (High school students and above / ¥200 Elementary • middle school students / ¥100). It is open from 8 am ~ 6 pm. The adorable ducks that swim in the river welcome visitors. We recommend this bath, not only for is effectiveness for treating eye illnesses, along with other health benefits, but also for visitors who would like to enjoy the charming scenery of upstream Shiroishi River.

Spash Land Park is a park located near Obara Onsen Village that is connected to Spash Land Shiroishi, a multipurpose village, by a 73m long suspension bridge. Splash Land Park is a park known for its lush greenery and Shibazakura flowers during spring time.
The park has a layout to suit the needs of people from all ages, from children to adults. The park has playground equipment for children, an entrance square with rest rooms and toilet, promenades with seasonal flowers for you to enjoy while you take a troll and many more. Spash Land Park together with Spash Land Shiroishi are both recommended leisure spots for refreshing yourself during holidays. Zaimokuiwa Park
Zaimokuiwa Park is a park located in the downstream of Shichikashuku Dam. The park is built with water and valley rocks as its theme, base of the idea of “A park where you can have a talk with water and rocks” or “Mizu to Ishi tono Katarai no Kousen”. In front of you is Japan’s natural monument “Zaimokuiwa”. The “Zaimokuiwa” by itself is the embodiment of formative art by Mother Nature.
