The starting point of the walking tour is "Sumaru Yashiki," which is a 3-minute walk from JR Shiroishi Station, located between Shiroishi Castle and JR Shiroishi Station.
It is a wealthy merchant's residence consisting of a store with thick earthen walls built in the middle of the Meiji era (1868-1912) and a main building built in the Taisho era (1912-1926), designated as a national Registered Tangible Cultural Property.
There is a lot to learn as you walk towards the stops on the tour.
Because you explore the town slowly enough to read the signs and information boards throughout town, you can learn more deeply about the historical features remaining in the area around the castle.
The stone handed down from the past, from which was the place name "Shiroishi" was derived.
The root of the stone is said to be connected from Shiroishi City all the way to Nenoshiroishi in Izumi Ward, Sendai City; which is why it is popular as a spot that increases your luck of finding romance.
