Shinseki Shiroishi

Shinseki Shiroishi is a famous spot for wishing for a life partner in Shiroishi City. The rock has a diameter 1.05m, and is thought to be a stone which the deity resides. The root of this rock is deep and it is said that the root extends from Shiroishi City to Izumiku of Sendai City. It is said that just the two rocks far away from each other are connected, if one pray for a good life partner at Shinseki Shiroishi, his or her wish will come true.

In the middle of Sawabatagawa River, a river that is located in between Shiroishi Castle and the Sannomaru outer moat of the castle, is a stone said to be the origin of the name “Shiroishi” in ancient times. It is said that the rock is surrounded by vermillion lacquered Tamagaki (a fence around a shrine), and is worshiped as “Shinseki” (God Stone) during the era of feudal government. The rock is a grey-brown tuff and its root is deep, extending far out, from its located to Neshiroishi of Izumiku in Sendai City. Since ancient times, “Shinseki Shiroishi” has stood there quietly observing the changes in Shiroishi area. From the legend that Shinseki Shiroishi has a deep connection, recently some people have visited with the reason that the rock is “A rock that unravels your fate”. Shinseki Shiroishi stood strong unwavering over the long years despite the strong wind and harsh rains. Indeed, this stone seems to have the ability to bestow upon us powers.
